MER Clinic: Creating Backdrops

Presented by Marshall Abrams @ MER Rockville 2013

Use of pictures to produce backdrops is one of the hottest trends in realistic modeling. Using the informal seminar format, Marshall will demonstrate how picture postcards, card stock models and other media can be used to make backdrops. Marshall will focus on urban scenes, using his layout as a demonstration. The clinic will start with a Powerpoint presentation on techniques and backdrop subjects, then move to a live internet exploration of products related to producing backdrops. Marshall will review articles (e.g., Paul Dolkos in Model Railroader) applicable to modeling backgrounds, then show how many of the techniques were used on his layout. Professionally and artistically, Marshall Abrams' career has been spent in advanced work with computers, including, at one point, service as computer clerk of the division. He has long experience in presenting clinics on various aspects of modeling, including operation and signaling.
